Born
in Stuttgart, Germany, 1970. When he was three his parents
moved to the south of France where he grew up on the part
of Beaulieu/Mer. It was here that he developed his taste
for the sea and when he was at the age of six he joined
the local yacht club.
Andreas has been working in the fitness industry for over
10 years now and his enthusiasm for overall physical and
mental well-being has led him to create his own fitness
company in Switzerland, which specialises in weight loss
through healthy and balanced approach to exercise and nutrition.
He is a qualified fitness instructor, personal trainer and
has studied advanced nutrition.
Andreas has crossed the Atlantic twice already, solo, by
sailboat, but it is only fairly recently that he has taken
to rowing.
Apart from his goal of being the first German in history
to row across any ocean Andreas intends to be the first
solo rower to cross three oceans, and also to be the first
solo ocean rower to leave from New York Harbour.
Andreas has been an asthmatic since the age of ten, and
therefore part of his motivation for this challenge is to
become the first asthmatic in history to cross the ocean
in a rowboat. Andreas's dream is to bring hope (and, more
practically, monetary support for medical research) to other
asthmatic sufferers by demonstrating that no matter what
your disadvantages may be it is possible to fulfil your
dreams!
Andreas Rommel left Chatham, Cape Cod, USA in his new Adkin
& Morrison boat, Lady Georgia, in July 2004, in a bid
to row the North Atlantic solo West to East from the USA
to the UK and therefore become the first German in history
to row an Ocean.
